Terminology used in the Pexenhurst service

Definitions of the key terms and concepts used across the Pexenhurst interface and on this website.

The terms below are used consistently throughout the Pexenhurst service and its documentation. Understanding them will help you interpret what the interface shows and what the support team is referring to in correspondence. These definitions reflect the way terms are used in this context; they do not represent formal or legally binding definitions.

Core concepts

Classification and information structure

Classification
The process of assigning an item of information to one or more defined categories based on its properties. Classification is applied by the system according to rules set by the operator configuration.
Category
A defined group into which items are placed during classification. Categories are described by their properties and the criteria used to assign items to them. The available categories depend on the dataset configuration.
Item
A discrete unit of information held within the system. An item may be a record, document, entry, or other data element, depending on how the dataset has been structured.
Dataset
The collection of items available within a particular account or operator configuration. The dataset determines what information is visible and how it is classified.
Relationship
A connection identified between two or more items based on shared properties or category membership. Relationships are displayed alongside items in the review interface where relevant.
Classification layer
The functional component of the service responsible for applying category definitions to incoming items. The classification layer operates as part of the information-processing pipeline.
Interface concepts

What you see in the review display

Review interface
The user-facing display through which classified information is presented. The review interface shows items within their assigned categories, with contextual information visible alongside each entry.
Category view
A display mode that shows all items assigned to a particular category. Users can navigate from the category view to individual item views and return without losing their position.
Item view
A detailed display of a single item, showing its properties, assigned category or categories, and any relationships identified with other items in the dataset.
Context
Additional information shown alongside a classified item to help interpret it. Context may include related items, category metadata, or information drawn from elsewhere in the dataset.
Structured view
A presentation of information organised according to the classification applied by the system. A structured view groups items by category and makes relationships between items visible within the display.
Operator configuration
The set of rules and definitions applied to a particular dataset or account. The operator configuration determines how items are classified, what categories are available, and what information is visible to users.
Enquiry concepts

The team at Pexenhurst Systems Ltd responsible for reviewing enquiries, handling access requests, and addressing user questions about the service.
Enquiry routing
The process by which a submitted enquiry is directed to the appropriate support channel based on the request type selected and the content of the message.
